"NEW IMPLANT SURGERY"
Fresh Cadaver Course Format
- July 18,19,20 2010
at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, La Jolla, California
limited attendance, this course has been full every year.

This is the 27th year for our courses and this year the “Implant Surgery” course will be expanded to include vital didactic information that is critical to the decision making process. This will allow the participating doctor the opportunity to learn when each of the specific procedures are indicated, what anatomical structures are in the field and the risks involved, how to interpret the cone beam images provided, and to be able to treatment plan the placement of implants and grafts with greater care and precision. This information is vital in helping the clinician in selecting the appropriate type of implant for each site and for each patient.

To make this possible, an additional day has been added to this year’s program where the diagnostic information: cone beam CT images (iCat) and study casts of the specimens will be made available before the surgical dissection course. This will allow each doctor to review the CT images and casts, ask questions about their specimens and discuss surgical procedures before arriving at the anatomy laboratory. The surgery syllabus will be given to the participants along with Dr. Tanaka’s DVD, “Anatomy for Implant Dentistry” the day before the surgery class begins.

Doctors may elect to participate either in a beginning or an advanced group. Everyone will be able to observe all of the advanced demonstrations by Drs. Becker, Kerateew and faculty on overhead TV monitors.

This is a rare opportunity to perform implant surgery on fresh specimens that are not fixed in formalin and your complete respect and care for the specimens will be expected.

You Will Learn...

  • Important treatment planning and surgical strategies,
  • How to select and use special instruments for atraumatic tooth removal, new flap designs, and proper suturing techniques.
  • How to read and interpret the cone beam CT images of the specimen that you will be operating on in the anatomy laboratory.
  • You will have study casts of your specimen to evaluate the buccal-lingual dimensions of the edentulous site, the opposing occlusion and the degree of tooth wear.
  • You will be able to determine the width of the maxillary and mandibular ridges and proximity to critical structures on the cone beam images.
  • You will learn the criteria for selecting the appropriate implant for different sites and the size and position before you get to the laboratory.
  • You will have the opportunity to view the cone beam images of the other specimens and discuss treatment plans with your instructors who teach implant surgery and the restoration of implants in graduate periodontic and prosthodontic programs.

Come prepared for three days of new knowledge, exciting new discoveries and surgical demonstrations.

Bring your families, July is the best month of the year in San Diego!
